DR. ZELKO: So, Maria, good morning. How are you?
MARIA: Good morning.
DR. ZELKO: So, you had Tickle Lipo done.
DR. ZELKO: Now it’s going on approximately 18 days ago.
MARIA: Yes. I did.
DR. ZELKO: So tell me first why did you want to have liposuction done in general.
MARIA: Well, actually, at first I didn’t. I was — my mind on what lipo was the traditional, the in-hospital outpatient, the cost, the downtime. I was not interested in lipo until I heard about your procedure. And that’s when I came to see you for a consultation. I did never considered lipo because I had really thought that my alternative to the midriff section which I was very unhappy with was either — actually I was contemplating drastic tummy tuck and I vacillated because that’s not what I really wanted do — the surgical procedure, all the risk and scarring. So when I spoke with you I felt very comfortable in going through the procedure.
DR. ZELKO: What — you said you never even thought about liposuction because of what you’ve seen or what you’ve heard. What are the things that just made you want to just not think “that’s not my option”?
MARIA: I think in my mind I just felt a procedure, in my mind, invasive. The thought of having something just dramatically go in there and break up the fat, if as you say, was not going to be for me, the lasting results. I just really didn’t contemplate it at all. It really really never crossed my mind because I didn’t think it would work for me given that I had struggled with the midriff section for several years and nothing I did worked — nothing. In fact, like I shared with you, I thought really my only alternative was surgery. So needless to say, after the consultation with you, I was thrilled that you offered me an option that was safe, with no downtime whatsoever, and that would work for me.
DR. ZELKO: So you also have a little benefit of what was all about because you were able to observe a procedure before you had the procedure.
MARIA: Yes I did.
DR. ZELKO: Tell me a little about that.
MARIA: Well, I think in observing the procedure, it gave me a comfort level in that the way you were with the patient. You were very patient, explained everything step-by-step thoroughly. Your main concern was for the comfort of the patient and continually asked her if she was comfortable and she continually verified that she was fine. In fact, her and I talked through the whole procedure and we even joked. So that gave me, I think, a little bit of — put me at ease as far as going through the procedure knowing that was going to be local and not under anesthesia because, you know, all those things go through my mind. Can I tolerate it? Is it going to hurt? You know, am I going to feel squeamish? But you alleviated all of those fears. And in watching the procedure, more so and that I watched your expertise which really put me at ease.
DR. ZELKO: Thank you. Going into it, if someone said: “You’re gonna have a lipo. Would you like to be asleep or awake while we do your lipo?” What would you have chosen from the get-go?
MARIA: From the get-go, not knowing about this particular procedure, I probably would have said asleep.
DR. ZELKO: What if they said: “Well, you could be asleep or you could be awake but we will definitely make you numb pretty thoroughly.” Would you still have the fear of being awake and say: “just knock me out”?
MARIA: No because I think the risks of anesthesia outweigh the benefits of not having it. And the way you explained the procedure and the anesthesia and how would work made me feel comfortable and obviously seen that procedure done, that really put me at ease and very grateful not to have anesthesia.
DR. ZELKO: So give me in short little synopsis of how did the procedure went for you, the actual day of the procedure and the procedure itself. How would you describe it?
MARIA: Well, I came in a little excited because I was looking forward to finally losing that mid-section that I had struggled with for years. I was not afraid at all. I was anticipating the results and everything went as you explained. It went smooth. When there was a little discomfort, I’d share with you yes or no. And you took the time to make sure that I was comfortable at all times. And of course, your staff there — it was just a very, very pleasant, if I can say, experience with great results.
DR. ZELKO: Thank you very much. Many people, if they hear about a discussion regarding the liposuction and they know about the garment that they have to wear afterwards and they’ve been told about the fluid drainage afterwards, how did that go as far as wearing the garment that was pretty tight, you know, you having some drainage form the anesthesia coming back out that we put in, how did you adjust to that experience for the first day or two?
MARIA: The first day, I did experience a lot of drainage but I was well-prepared because of the instructions given prior to the procedure were very very thorough into what to expect and that we also had — you were on call for us. I was very wet. There was some drainage. But after the first 24 hours, it was fine. As far as the garment, it actually, if I can say this never having worn a girdle, it actually felt goof. It kind of it held you so that — it was a little bit of a comf — It was a hug, yeah. I have to say it was comfortable to the fact that I wore it even beyond the first week for when I’d exercise or do anything.
DR. ZELKO: Now, it’s summertime in Wisconsin. It’s like summertime in Miami or something like that but, I mean, was it okay to wear that garment when it was relatively hot out?
MARIA: I did plan for kind of staying indoors for the first two days but afterwards, yeah, it was okay. I just made concessions that I wore light-colored clothing and it was light enough to — it worked.
DR. ZELKO: So going between the house that’s air-conditioned, and the car that’s air-conditioned, possible building air-conditioned, wasn’t that big of a deal to be on it.
MARIA: Not at all. Not at all. I was able to wear my own regular clothing. In fact, right after I left here I was able to drop down a size in clothing.
DR. ZELKO: Very good. That’s so nice.
MARIA: Yes. Yes.
DR. ZELKO: So with traditional, other forms of liposuction, you were asked to wear a garment. I used to tell this. I did it before liposuction. You’re asked to wear garment for 4 to 6 weeks. If I have told you that, granted you liked the hug of your garment, would you have wanted that hug for 4 to 6 weeks?
MARIA: Well, you know, as much as you like it, it’s really nice to take it off. I think 4 to 6 weeks would — it really plays into the factors whether you decide to do that or not. I think 4 to 6 weeks maybe in the winter but to be that confined, I don’t know.
DR. ZELKO: So now, 18, 19 days out, what are your thoughts so far about healing process and your results?
MARIA: For me, I think it went just exactly as you stated. There was some swelling, a little bit of discomfort after the 2nd day I’d say but nothing at all intolerable. It was like as if I had worked out really hard. And the soreness was tolerable. I was able to do my regular activities with some of the limitations that you shared just the first week. But after the 2nd week, I’ve been doing everything and no limitations whatsoever. And nothing that I could say is intolerable at all.
DR. ZELKO: It didn’t slow that much?
MARIA: Not at all. Not at all.
DR. ZELKO: And so what, so far, do you think of your results?
MARIA: Oh, well, this morning I went to a closet that I’ve got clothing I haven’t worn in years and I was able to wear some of them. So I’m very very pleased. I just wish I’d known about it sooner.
DR. ZELKO: So checked in to new wardrobe?
MARIA: I am. Yes. Yes I am.
DR. ZELKO: You’re looking great.
MARIA: Thank you.
DR. ZELKO: Parting words for someone who is thinking about or who is actually thinking about having liposuction done and not dismissing it but looking at the pros and cons of traditional versus something more office-based, what would be your counsel to them?
MARIA: I would say, first of all, come and have the consult. If there are questions that you can answer –but I highly recommend it. And I’m not one to go into drastic procedures. You know you have to weigh the risks versus benefits and I see very little to no risk at this. Plus the benefits, I mean, you feel good, you look good. The comfort level that you provide for this procedure, you know, go for it. Seriously, I cannot tell you the uplifted feeling that you have that you’re able to just put on something you haven’t worn in years. And then from there you get the incentive to keep on going and working towards whatever you want. So no hesitation whatsoever, come. Come for the consultation. There’s no fear here.
DR. ZELKO: So now there’s a physical change. But do you feel there’s a mental change along with this?
MARIA: Definitely. I mean body image, you know, there’s something to be said about body image. If you’re uncomfortable, you show it. For me, it was always just the fact that this was not who I was. This was not what I was when I was younger. If there is something available to you that’s safe, definitely it improves your outlook. It is all around a good benefit. You just feel good.
DR. ZELKO: Well, comes to one last question. Is the price worth the procedure? Is the price worth it?
MARIA: Oh yes. Yes. Oh definitely, yes.
DR. ZELKO: There’s no doubt.
MARIA: No doubts, versus the traditional, yes, definitely. If you really look into it, the traditional, I’m sure, because I really hadn’t as much more because you have to have the consult, the hospital, the anesthesia. You know it’s just definitely. Also, you walk out of here. There’s no downtime. Seriously, there’s no downtime.
DR. ZELKO: So thank you very much for coming and I appreciate. You’re looking great.
MARIA: Thank you. Thank you. Thank you.
